apples in the fall

so apparently for fall to come snow has to come too. luckily it doesnt stick. it just brings on the changing of the leaves. and they are gorgeous. its crazy how fast they changed colors. and the colors are so vibrant, its breathtaking. i love it.

this month has flown by, i cant believe its already the end of october. school/work and everything else is consuming our time. jason had his first show last weekend in new york. he seemed to have really enjoyed the trip and it sounds as though the show went well. they have one of their songs from the trip posted on their myspace. i think its the "song you enjoy myself." he is also working more at his new job and it seems perfect for him since its in a jazz bar. he can listen to bands play while making money.

my little sister has come for the week. its been fun taking her around. we went and ate in china town the first night. today we went apple picking. it was fun. it was more fun baking our pies though.

i heart fall big time :)

I would say that fall is my favorite season of the year, however, I love each season too much to say I favor one more than the other. I love the smell of fall. The leaves changing. The bitter cold. Wearing light jackets. Halloween and Thanksgiving. Its beautiful around our house, especially along the bike path that we take to get to the train station. The ride to the train station is a good wake up period. As the wind comes off the pond and through the trees my cheeks get a perfect feel of the fall air. I love it.

This weekend was a beautiful weekend. We went downtown to enjoy the Jazz Festival which was outdoors. While I wish I was scheduled to work Saturdays, I must say, I am really beginning to enjoy my one day off for the week. The weather was so nice we decided to walk most of the way from our house and crossed over the St. Charles Bridge. The view is a-mazing.

We have also discovered our favorite place for food and drinks. The Pour House. Its delicious and affordable, and the only place with decent bloody marys. Something I love indulging in on my day off of work, along with the half price burgers. I'm thinking next weekend, I might spend my saturday altering my clothes with my sewing machine since I can't buy new ones. It should be a fun little craft day.

Oh yea. Jason tried out for a band and was given the job! He's very excited about his new position. I think its a perfect fit for him as well. A nice little jazz trio. They are call the piano bastard. www.myspace.com/pianobastard They have a show coming up in a few weeks in New York. Hope he's ready, though I'm sure he will be, all he does when we are home is sit in the office practicing and reading about physics (his new hobby, and a good one).

baby its cold outside

well, its cold. not freezing but definitely jacket weather. i opted for a scarf and a light sweater because i cant say im hating the cold (yet). after being somewhere that is mainly, unbearably humid and hot all at once. this cold is kinda awesome. the best part is the smell. fall. the smell of fall is perfect. and so are the trees. the public transportation not so much. i still havent built up my motion sickness tolerance. im afraid i never will. oh, well. i guess ill just be doing a lot of walking and thats not such a bad thing. classes are good. work is ok. its work i guess. ill be observing classes soon. that will be interesting. and im going to be a substitute teacher next month. that will definitely be interesting and hopefully entertaining. its weird that im going to be a middle school teacher considering how much i HATED middle school, so much i dont remember much of middle school. ha. thats life for ya. oh. and. i feel like i spend more time commuting places than being stationary. now thats city life.

wish list/need list before its really cold outside:

1. because all city girls need a cute hat.

2. i need to keep my main mode of transportation safe and snug. and looking cute never hurts either.

(and yes i am a brown girl. or as jason refers to my clothes brown town girl. whatever that means)

beantown laughs

i was finally able to score a job. its at a restaurant called zuma tex mex. its pretty cool. everyone is really nice. its a fun place with any margarita you imagine ordering. i would say im going to try them all but im not one to spend 70 bucks on something i'll never see again in 30 min. i must say though. i am exhausted from my last few days of work. even so i am ever grateful that jason and i are both employed. i dread to think of what life would be like if neither of us had jobs. i hope i never have to find out. the economy seems to be getting worse but then again i'm not an economics major. moving here has made the hardships of the times seem more real. we are no longer apart of the oxford bubble. while that it is a great thing to have left i still miss our old home. i hope i always miss it. dont get me wrong i love it up here but i definitely grew to love the easy going life in mississippi.






we were able to venture out last monday to vermont. and it was as beautiful as you would imagine it to be. its comforting to know there are some very pretty green areas close to this industrial world we have moved to. we went to see zappa plays zappa and it was amazing. i would have to say it was one of the best concerts i have ever been to. i wish i was from the village of the sun. on friday jason took me to his new fav bar in boston (im sure he'll find plenty more favs but for now its just one). one great thing about boston is it is known for its beer. i do enjoy going out and being able to choice from at least 20 types. mmmm.









the weather has been great. its funny to hear people complain about the heat. the hottest its been is 87 thus far. ha. they know little about heat and much about cold weather. another funny thing is that everyone has to ask me how i like living in boston. like im really going to say anything besides it being great. one day im just going to answer that it is absolutely awful. it will be fun to laugh at their reaction. also, right after they ask, the next thing everyone says is wait till the winter. duh. i'm 1500 miles northeast of where i came from. i can only imagine that the winter is slightly more brutal than mississippi where it can be in the 90s on new years eve. no worries here though, i have my winter coat that makes me look like a burrito when i wear it. its like walking around in a sleeping bag and it will be awesome when it snows. i'm thinking vermont for a ski trip in the snow. now that would be truly lovely.

a shelf full of drawers

the last two days haven't been too eventful. i went and met my advisor yesterday. that wasn't too bad. i only have class for six hours out of the whole week. i need to find a job soon. i did stay up late last night applying for jobs and did manage to get a couple of interviews. yay! i'm getting restless. i did manage to make some shelves for the kitchen out of some old drawers i picked up off the side of the road. i also made a decorative piece out some fabric and a frame from goodwill. i think the total cost of the shelves and the picture was two bucks. not bad.

who woulda thought monday's were so fun?

luckily when you live in a city you can be poor and still find many things to do. we decided once we had woken up and drank our morning cup of coffee that we would take advantage of the bike path by our house. during our ride we stopped to have a picnic and throw the frisbee. the great thing was it was all FREE. the only thing that it cost me was my energy. but it was worth it. after getting home we looked up local beaches and discovered that there was a swimming beach only a train ride away. we went for a bit then headed home. it was quite a trip and an exhausting day. i'm so glad i'm finally with jason again.

Shutters Galore.

So, yesterday was an oh so eventful day. While Jason worked all day straight, I stayed home cleaning, baking cookies and watching hours of CSI NY. We bought Netflix since Jason won't allow me to get cable (GRRR). But once I realized how many seasons of CSI I had available to me. I was perfectly fine with that. I also had time to look through craiglists free stuff posting and found a great score that I picked up today. I found a large supply of hundred year old drawers and shutters that I plan to make shelves and wall hangings out of. I'll post pics once I finish my first crafting project I can't wait.

There was also a friendly lil BBQ that I attended in the backyard. The pics are of Laurence the lovely nutty professor landlord filled with a plethora of information, who is constantly making me laugh, and Jane who lives downstairs, she cooked all the food and it was delicious.

I also took a pic of the garden that is in our backyard. Its full of vegetables and herbs. There is even a peach tree!

Flower Pickin'

Since the weather has been so awesome up here there are tons of flowers in bloom. I went to the pond to pick some. As I was walking along the path I noticed that what I was doing was illegal. Oops. So I quickly left with my flowers in hand hoping no one noticed. But as one of the park's Bostonians informed me, "Life is boring if you follow the rules. Just take em." And now our home smells quite nice. Ha. When we were walking back from the farmers market the other day I saw some hydranias. After I had convinced Jason it wasn't a big deal to take them. He ran to the plant, cut the flower and then quickly informed me that he had cut his fret finger. Needless to say he was super happy with me on the walk home. NOT. But I knew he would get over it and thankfully he did. Today I was so excited when I was applying for jobs I walked out of one restaurant and discovered a GoodWill. Now I just need a job so I can buy some stuff. I saw some coffee mugs and pictures I want. Although I did buy a couple of things. We needed them so it was ok.
